Directions:
Invite friends of your children or neighborhood kids to a bug hunting party! Each child will need a journal, a magnifying glass, markers, and a bug hut. When the children arrive, pass out the magnifying glass, markers, bug hut and journal. Have the children look for as many kinds of bugs they can find. First, they can use their magnifying glass to look at the bugs up close. Then, the children can draw them in their journals with the markers. The kids can then put the bugs in the bug hut. There can be contest to see: who found the most kinds of bugs, the weirdest bug, the smallest bug, the largest bug, the best bug for the garden (the ladybug), etc.
Afterwards, the children can create their own bugs with Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! Dough. Not only are all of these items great activities, they are also terrific party favors!
Some extensions of a bug hunting party:
1. Children love to paint! They can paint their bug hut after they release their bugs.
2. Read "Amazing Animal Defenses" to the children. Kids love facts about how animals (including insects) protect themselves!
3. Bugs & Critters Scratch Magic Stickers are a terrific activity for children at a party. Boys and girls alike enjoy them!
4. Bug Toobs are also another party favor.
