Directions:
Read Sunflower House by Eve Bunting. Create a sunflower house using the Garden To Grow and some sunflower seeds! Have a space of dirt the size of about two bikes side by side. Draw (you or the children) out a rectangle or circle. Have the children dig about 1/2 inch into the ground, plant the seeds and then cover them up. ALWAYS have children predict what they think is going to happen. This creates critical thinking in children.
Some extensions on this activity:
1. Have the children water the area. This teaches them responsibility and respect for other life.
2. Take weekly measurements. Chart it.
3. Count the number of plants that come to life.
4. Roast the sunflower seeds!
